Over 20 Presentations at the International Conference on Liberal Education

The International Conference on “Liberal Education: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Applications” took place from October 26th to 27th at Thai Binh Duong University, featuring prominent speakers such as Dr. Pham Quoc Loc, the Principal; Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh, Director of the International Training Institute and the General Education and Creative Innovation Center; and Dr. Mary Beth Marklein from George Mason University, USA.

The International Conference, “Liberal Education: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Applications,” brought together researchers, educators, scholars, and practitioners from around the world to explore and exchange ideas on the diverse aspects of liberal education. The event focused particularly on interdisciplinary perspectives and practical applications, addressing topics such as:

– The philosophical foundations of education and liberal education.

– Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to education and liberal education.

– Innovations in teaching and optimal methods in education.

– Social and cultural aspects, ethics, and values in education and liberal education.

– The role and impact of technology on education and liberal education.

– Assessment methods in education and liberal education.

– International and comparative perspectives on education and liberal education.

– Other themes related to education and educational management.

The Conference featured main speakers including Dr. Pham Quoc Loc, the Principal; Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh, Director of the International Training Institute and the General Education and Creative Innovation Center; and Dr. Mary Beth Marklein from George Mason University, USA. Notably, the Conference also received contributions from TBD lecturers such as Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh, Dr. Le Anh Van, Dr. Ngo Huong, MSc. Tran Thi Phi Anh, MSc. Dinh Thi Nga, MSc. Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong, Dr. Tran Tri Dung, MSc. Nguyen Le Kim Khanh.

Within the framework of the Conference, there were also training workshops for faculty and staff on two specific topics related to liberal education:

1. Assessment in Liberal Education – Dr. Mary Beth Marklein: Exploring the most effective assessment methods in liberal education; Learning practical skills to implement effective assessment methods.

2. Effective Classroom Organization in the Spirit of Liberal Education – Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh: Understanding classroom organization methods based on the philosophy of liberal education; Empowering and encouraging student autonomy.

At the end of the Conference, speakers received certificates from the organizers.

As defined by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), liberal education is an approach to learning that empowers individuals and prepares them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. It provides students with broad knowledge of the wider world (e.g., science, culture, and society) as well as in-depth study in a specific area of interest. Liberal education helps students develop strong intellectual abilities and practical skills, such as communication, analysis, problem-solving, and the ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-life situations.
