On September 4th, the 4th International Joint Conference on Hospitality and Tourism (IJCHT 2024), co-organized by Thai Binh Duong University and 10 prestigious universities and research centers worldwide, officially commenced.
The conference, themed Transformation Trends: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Tourism, will take place until September 5th. It provides an opportunity for researchers, scholars, educators, management agencies, and businesses to exchange knowledge and experiences, and explore the latest trends shaping the future of the tourism and hospitality industry.
Attending the conference from Thai Binh Duong University were Prof. Dr. Dao Van Dong – President; Dr. Huynh Thanh Trang – Head of the Department of Research and International Cooperation, along with leaders from various faculties and departments.
Representing the co-organizing units were Dr. Do Thi Mai Doan Thuc – Dean of the Faculty of Tourism of Thai Binh Duong University, Conference Chair; Dr. Anderson Ngelambong – Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at MARA University of Technology (Malaysia); and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ann Suwaree Ashton – School of Tourism Management, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA, Thailand).
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Dao Van Dong, stated: “IJCHT 2024 is an annual conference that provides an open academic research environment closely linked to industry practices, with multi-dimensional perspectives on tourism, particularly focusing on the urgent and contemporary issue of sustainable tourism development”.
With the rapid development of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), and changes in tourist behavior and needs, defining and implementing sustainable tourism is facing new challenges and opportunities. During the two days of the conference, speakers will present and discuss the main theme: Trends that have and are transforming the future of sustainable tourism.
According to the Conference Committee, 85 high-quality papers were accepted for presentation out of over 120 submissions. These include 3 keynote speeches by renowned scientists and scholars worldwide:
- Prof. Cihan Cobanoglu – University of South Florida (USA), Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Technology, with the topic: “The Intersection of AI and Sustainability: Redefining the Future of Tourism”.
- Prof. John Bowen – University of Southern California (USA), co-author of the famous book “Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism,” with the topic: “Novel trends affecting the growth of sustainable tourism”.
- Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Director of Institute for Tourism Development Research (Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), with the topic: “Current status and development trends of the Vietnamese tourism industry.”
Conference presentations will be held in parallel sessions (both in-person and online), chaired by scientists and experts from prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings with an ISBN index.
IJCHT 2024 promises to be an important international forum, providing valuable scientific and practical insights to guide the sustainable development of the tourism industry in the new context. The success of the conference will contribute positively to developing an environment for academic exchange and promoting extensive international research, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa in particular, and promoting Vietnam’s deeply integrated economy in general.
